School Meals

Our kitchen on the school site provides freshly cooked school meals which are nutritionally balanced. You can see the termly school menu via the link to Surrey's school meal website here. Children can also choose to have packed lunches if they wish, but these do need to be healthy and must not include sweets or any fizzy drinks as we are a Healthy School. The children all eat together in the main hall.

Payment for school meals must be paid in advance, using either our on-line payment method Scopay, cash or cheque. For ordering and administration purposes, we do ask that parents commit to either school meals or a packed lunch from home on a full half term basis. Children of parents who receive support payments such as Income Support or Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance may be entitled to free school meals and milk. Please contact the School Office for further information.

Water is always available for children to drink at lunchtime and break times. Children may bring a bottle of water to school to drink during lesson times. No juice or squash is allowed.

All children may purchase a carton of milk to drink during the morning. Please collect details from the school office and register for milk at CoolMilk.

When children eat well, they do better at school. If you want to find out more information about food in schools or changes to government policy or even if you just want some great ideas for what to put in a healthy lunchbox please have a look at Childrens Food Trust.

Depending on your circumstances, your child may qualify to have tasty, healthy school meals for free. It could save you more than £350 a year, and you won't need to worry about making packed lunches every day. Schools receive vital funding for their Free School Meals pupils and even if you decide not to have the meals, we still receive an allocation in our Pupil Premium funding. The Pupil Premium is additional funding given to schools so that they can support their disadvantaged pupils and close the attainment gap between them and their peers. Please talk to the school office if you think you may be eligible (and have a look here to see if you qualify).

Shawley School Award Winners

We have recently started awarding children with VIP (Very Important Pupil) Lanyards when they have excelled at something. We are particularly looking for children who promote the school values and are excellent role models to others in terms of following the school rules.

Our most recent VIP awards have gone to:

Skarlett (Chestnut) - for always being kind, thoughtful and caring towards everyone. She is a supportive and encouraging learning partner who is always polite and helpful.

Georgia (Fir) - for the kindness she shows to others. She has a thoughtful nature, beautiful manners and is friendly to everyone. Georgia displays an excellent attitude towards learning and takes pride and care with all aspects of her work.

What parents are saying about us

Shawley is a caring environment where every child is known to all, even from the early days of the Reception year. The older children are taught to respect the little ones; the little ones know and trust the older ones. Personal and emotional development, as well as academic progression, are intrinsic to the success of this warm, secure school which, although located in the heart of Epsom Downs, retains a "village-like" feel.

John & Glynis Wheeler, Parents

Shawley has given our son the best possible start in school life. All the teachers throughout the school seem to have a real passion and enthusiasm for teaching. The school has an enthusiastic and thriving Fundraising Committee, consistently striving to raise funds for extra equipment and facilities for the children.

Charlotte Elson, Parent

Both my children really enjoy coming to school. They are excited to learn new things and find their classes both interesting and challenging. As a parent, I feel the staff at al levels are helpful, friendly and approachable. My whole family loves Shawley Community Primary School!
